What is HackAlert™ V5?
Armorize HackAlert™ is a scalable cloud-based service that analyzes, detects, prevents, and mitigates against malware infections across corporate websites, in online ads, in documents and in emails. HackAlert focuses on special malware, such as 0-day exploits or exploits used in APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) attacks, that are undetectable by typical virus or malware scanners. This may include for example malicious binaries, document exploits (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Flash), Java exploits, browser exploits, BHO (browser helper object) exploits, drive-by downloads, click-to downloads, etc.
HackAlert’s Detection Mechanisms
HackAlert incorporates multiple layers of technologies that interact closely with each other in analyzing an attack; these modules include a) HackAlert Sandbox Analyzer, b) HackAlert Static Analyzer based on the Armorize Attack Definition Language (AADL), c) HackAlert Integrated Blacklist and Reputation Analyzer, d) HackAlert Heuristics Analyzer, e) HackAlert Anomaly Profiler, and f) integration with other anti-virus engines.
HackAlert’s Supported Targets
HackAlert supports multiple infection vectors including a) Web pages, b) URLs, c) online ads (malvertising), d) email content, e) email attachments and document files, and f) other file types. The HackAlert Developers’s API is a comprehensive and easy to use API that enables easy integration of HackAlert with existing cloud-based services, web filtering gateways, email servers, etc.
HackAlert’s Forensics-Based Reporting
HackAlert generates aggregated AFRM (Armorize Forensics Reporting Methodology) reports within which evidences are fully correlated. An AFRM report can therefore can be used to generate a precise incident traceback, which describes in detail the entire dependency chain of an exploit-based malware infection (EBMI) incident, from the point of malware introduction, to each involved resources, to the actual point of exploitation, to the location of the ultimately installed malware binary, to the installation and execution of that malicious binary, to the harvesting of user data, to the controlling of user environment, and to the connection back to the command and control.
HackAlert’s Widget-Based Dashboard and Query-Based Analytics
HackAlert’s Widget-based dashboard allows for easy monitoring of scan statistics and for fast customization of the user interface. All visual components are widgets laid out on panels, and users can create panels and lay out widgets however they like. Custom widgets can also be created. The Armorize Scan Query Language (ASQL) enables for easy fetching of historical data and rapid generation of multiple types of reports.
HackAlert’s Scalable and Fault Tolerant Platform
Developed completely from the ground up around the latest methodologies for load balancing and dynamic provisioning, V5 is extremely scalable and fault tolerant, capable of handling a partner as big as Google. While V4 was built around relational databases, V5 was built from scratch using the following cloud-based technologies: a) elastic, scalable, and non-relational databases; b) map/reduce based analyzers; c) dynamic provisioning environments; d) elastic load balancers; e) distributed message queues; f) distributed cache; g) distributed shared memory.
What is HackAlert™ Anti-APT?
HackAlert™ Anti-APT is HackAlert’s service extension targeting malware used in APT (advanced persistent threats). The AFRM (Armorize Forensics Reporting Methodology) reports enables detailed and easy understanding of the detected incidents.
What is HackAlert™ Website Monitoring?
HackAlert™ Website Monitoring is HackAlert’s service extension that monitors website and immediately alerts website owners of their sites’ malware infections. HackAlert™ Website Monitoring protects corporate websites, provides detailed information about the injected malicious elements, and enables incident remediation.
What is Proofpoint Malvertising Protection?
Proofpoint Malvertising Protection is for the online media and advertising industry, and specifically targets malicious advertising (malvertising). Proofpoint Malvertising Protection monitors and safeguards ad networks, ad exchanges, ad optimizers and publishers from malvertising. Unique to Armorize, It analyzes not only the ad tags, but also the creatives and the actual impressions served. This ensures that creatives are authentic and unaltered, and the impressions are compliant with brand safety standards.
What is HackAlert™ Vulnerability Assessment (VA)?
Website infections and malvertising are often results of vulnerabilities existing within the website or ad-serving infrastructure. HackAlert™ Vulnerability Assessment (VA) is a service extension of HackAlert that helps administrators pinpoint and eliminate software vulnerabilities. Traditional VA solutions are not suitable for small-medium businesses because:
They will impact production systems, often causing permanent database modifications, and therefore cannot be used to scan against production systems.
They often trigger IDS / IPS alarms which leads to confusion and also results in the scanners being blocked from further scanning, impeding scan task completion and affecting scan depth.
They are designed for security experts and generates reports focused on vulnerabilities rather than on action items.
